You might be wondering...

Can I Afford a Personal Chef?

Yes! Having your own personal chef is very affordable; especially when you consider how much your time is worth. For example, five dinners in one week for a family of four can cost less than $20 per meal, including food cost! For a two week service, cost can be less than $12 per meal!

Prices vary depending on the quantity and frequency of meals ordered as well as any special food requests you may have. Please see our Fee Schedule for more information.

What is the difference between a personal chef and a private chef?

A personal chef has several clients but usually only services one client per day. They prepare multiple entrées to be consumed over a period of time. A private chef is employed full time by an individual or family, often lives on the premises and cooks all meals, every day.

How do you know my likes/dislikes and can you prepare special meals such as vegetarian, diabetic, low fat, low carb, recovering from an illness, etc?

Before you decide to hire me, we sit down together and I do an assessment of your individual food preferences, allergies and needs. I spend time researching and planning according to your requirements. I am also happy to prepare a family favorite or to speak to your health professional before I get started.

Why do you prepare the meals in my kitchen and do I need to be home?

California Health Laws do not allow me to cook in my own kitchen since I do not have a commercial kitchen which would be inspected by the health department. You do not need to be present but I ask that when you are home I have minimal interruptions during the time I am cooking and packaging. It takes a focused effort when cooking 5 meals during the same 5-7 hour period. I would hate to make a mistake and cause your meals to be below both of our expectations.

Do I need to supply you with any special equipment?

No, I can cook in any size kitchen. I bring all the equipment that I need for that day’s menu such as pots, pans, knives, towels, cutting boards and utensils. I also have a traveling pantry stocked with incidentals such as spices, condiments, etc. I ask that your oven and stove are clean and in good working order, the kitchen clean and counter space made available to prepare the menu.

How long will it take?

I usually spend 3 hours menu planning and grocery shopping. Depending on the commute, I like to arrive at your house between 9-10am. The actual cooking process can take anywhere from 5-7 hours depending on the difficulty of the meals and the menu plan that you choose. I will do my best to be out of your way before you get home. You will find a spotless kitchen and a home filled with mouth-watering aromas.

Do you provide the containers?

Having containers that are a uniform size means less storage space is used in your refrigerator and freezer. I will provide high quality containers to store your meals. There is a one-time container fee. If there is a menu item that you would like cooked or stored in a personal casserole or baking dish, that can certainly be arranged.

How will I know how to warm the food?

I recommend that any frozen entrees be taken out the day before to defrost in the refrigerator. I will leave detailed instructions on how to warm or heat each dish.

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

No. However, please keep in mind that it takes time to build a chef-client relationship. Your feedback is wanted & crucial. If you are not satisfied after your first meal service, please let me know so that we can continue this relationship.
